AI features available today
Every one of these runs only when you press its button, and every one can be turned off under Account → AI features.
| Feature | What it does | What is sent to the model |
|---|---|---|
| Essay marking | Suggests a mark and criterion feedback against the QCE English rubric. | Your essay text. |
| Answer and flashcard checking | Compares your written answer with the model answer and suggests a mark. Off until you switch it on. | Your written answer. |
| Brain-dump gap suggestions | Compares what you recalled with the knowledge point and lists what you missed. | Your brain-dump text. |
| Hints | Offers a graded hint for a question you're stuck on. | The question and how far you've got. |
| Handwriting scanning | Transcribes a photo of your written working so it can be marked. | The photo, with camera metadata removed first. |
| Ask the tutor | On a subject's page, its syllabus guides, every knowledge point, a task plan, pack notes and the daily loop. Answers questions from your syllabus only, citing the exact point it used; in hint mode it never gives the answer to the question you are on. | Your question and the last few turns of that conversation. The question is not stored — only a hash and its length, for abuse checks. |
| Syllabus guides | Revision notes for each part of a syllabus (the Guide pill on a subject's Topics tab), drafted by AI from the syllabus and past-paper questions and reviewed by us before they are published. | Nothing — they are generated from the syllabus, not from anything you submit. |
| Revision packs for assessment tasks | Per-point notes, diagrams, flashcards and quiz items for school-set tasks, drafted by AI from the syllabus and reviewed by us before they are published. | Nothing — they are generated from the syllabus, not from anything you submit. |
| Practice assessments and extra questions for a task | On request, a practice assessment (with solutions and a marking guide) or extra questions in the shape of your school task, written from your syllabus and the pack notes. Private to you. | The task's type, conditions and points; any teacher materials you choose to add (as text, used once and not stored). Photos are transcribed and then deleted. |
| Practice questions from your notes | Writes 3–10 questions with model answers (quick recall or exam-style) from notes you paste, a saved note you pick, or a photographed page. Answers stay hidden until you have had a go; save the set back to your notes if you want it. Runs on OpenAI, not Gemini. | The notes text you choose, or the transcribed photo. The gateway is told not to store the request. |
Changes
- Model
A second model provider: OpenAI, for practice questions from your notes
Practice questions from your notes runs on openai/gpt-6-astra through the same Lovable AI Gateway, processed in the United States, with the gateway told not to store the request and nothing used for training. Every other AI feature stays on Gemini 2.5 Flash. This feature went live on that model on 21 September and is being logged here the same day, which is short of the 30 days' notice we promise for a change of provider; the Privacy Policy and sub-processor list have been updated to match.
- Feature
Practice questions from your notes
From My notes, or the Turn into questions button on any saved note, paste or pick your notes (or photograph a page) and AI writes 3–10 questions with model answers, quick recall or exam-style. Each answer stays hidden until you have tried it, and you can save the set back to your notes. Written from your notes only, never from past papers, and private to you. AI can be wrong, so check anything that looks off against your syllabus.
- Feature
AI practice assessments and extra questions for school tasks
From a task's plan you can ask AI for a practice assessment with solutions and a marking guide in the shape of your task, and for more questions on any point (or more like the ones you missed). Each request uses AI credits, shown before you confirm. The questions are written from your syllabus and the reviewed pack notes, never from past papers, and only you can see them. You may add materials your teacher gave you to shape the questions; that text is sent once and is not stored. Photos go through the same scanning as handwriting checks and are deleted after use.
- Feature
Revision packs for school assessment tasks
Your revision for a school-set task (SAC, IA or assessment task) now runs from revision packs written for each knowledge point — a note keyed to the command verb, a diagram to redraw from memory, flashcards and a closed-book quiz — instead of past external-exam questions. Packs are drafted with AI from the syllabus and reviewed by us before they are published; nothing you submit is involved. Each task now has a plan page that shows what to do today and states how secure each point is, with the evidence behind it.
- Feature
Ask the tutor
An Ask the tutor button on Subjects, syllabus notes and each knowledge point. It answers only from your syllabus and cites the point it used, declines questions it cannot ground there, and while you are mid-question it switches to hint mode and will not give the answer. Each answered turn uses one AI credit; declined questions are free. Your questions are not stored.
- Feature
Syllabus notes
Each part of a syllabus can now carry a short set of revision notes — an overview, a point-by-point breakdown keyed to the command verb, a worked past-paper example and a glossary. They are drafted by AI from the syllabus and reviewed by us before you can see them; nothing you submit is involved. They appear as a Notes link on Subjects and on each knowledge point once published.
- Safety
This change log, inline accuracy reminders, metadata stripping
Every AI response now carries a one-line reminder that AI can be wrong. Photos you upload for handwriting scanning have camera metadata (location, device, time) removed in your browser before upload. This page becomes the record of AI changes.
- Privacy
Rate & report, input notices, an AI features switch
Thumbs up/down and a Report link under every AI response; a privacy reminder beside every AI input; Account → AI features turns every AI entry point off; a How our AI works guide; a published sub-processor register naming the AI provider.
- Feature
Brain-dump gap suggestions
After a brain dump on a knowledge point, AI can compare your recall with the knowledge point and list what you missed. Opt-in per use; costs credits.
- Feature
Flashcards: opt-in AI answer check in Write mode
Write mode can send a non-exact answer to AI for a judgement. Off by default; a switch in the session turns it on; one credit per check.
- Feature
QCE English essay marking
AI-suggested marks and criterion feedback against the 45-mark external assessment rubric, shown beside your own self-marking so you can compare.
- Feature
Hint ladder and criterion marking
Graded hints for questions, and AI-suggested criterion marks for written answers.
- Model
Monthly AI credit allowance; Gemini 2.5 Flash
AI features moved to a monthly credit allowance per plan. All features run on google/gemini-2.5-flash through the Lovable AI Gateway.
